Born with wings!

Travis Pastrana. Red Bull New Years No Limits.

It’s that time of year again! A time to rejoice and be happy, a time to be thankful and merry, a time for Red Bull to pull off yet another insane record breaking stunt, a time when every single Travis Pastrana fan will hold their breath for one more minute and pray, pray that he comes out the other side alive!
With any luck, and probably his infamous lucky gold shoes, Pastrana will follow Robbie Maddison and Rhys Millen into the Guinness Book of World Records this new years by making a rally car fly further than ever before, but that is not all ladies and gentlemen, oh no, this is Travis Pastrana after all. He won’t simply be jumping one of Subaru’s finest rally cars off of one ramp and on to another! No. He is planning to launch himself like a friggin’ catapult off of the Pine Street Pier, fly, like he was born with wings, over a nice healthy stretch of the Pacific Ocean and hopefully, fingers crossed, land on a barge that will be floating around somewhere in Long Beach’s Rainbow Harbour.
Just a small one this year then ay’ Travis?
His aim, along with:
Possibly (preferably not) sending himself into an early grave
Severely injuring himself and his, oh so pretty face
Giving his parents
Friends
Nitro Family
Girlfriend
And fans, a heart attack, is, to say the least, completely annihilate, destroy, obliterate, eradicate and exterminate, the existing 171 feet record, against a beautiful back drop of the world famous Queen Mary cruise ship.
Oh, did I mention he’s also planning to do this on live TV?
However Pastrana is no stranger to success, which is probably the reason he even thought he could attempt this in the first place. With more Rally championships and X Games medals than I can count, the first double back flip on a motorcycle, a huge television series, some of the most epic crashes the world has ever seen and the sought after “I’ve been Punkd” title, under his belt, some people out there (I like to call them pessimists) would say that maybe he’s hit his peak and is just on his way out, but our dear old Trav, is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
“Red Bull No Limits is going to push the limits of anything that I have ever executed in my career. Live events are always difficult and more entertaining, both for the fans and the participants, and so many factors play into the success of this jump. I live for this kind of excitement.”
Does this sound like a man on his way out to you?
And to think he’s still only 26 years old. Born in 1983, Pastrana celebrated his 26th birthday just a few short months ago. He’s taught some of the world’s best FMX riders how to back flip, name drop Nate “The Destroyer” Adams. He has invented some of the most mind blowing motorcycle tricks known to man, broken more bones and had more concussions than even his doctor can remember. He is known as an innovator, for more reasons than one, and in a couple of weeks he will be adding yet another impressive achievement to his already endless list of accomplishments.

To all the regular “responsible” adults, who will be spending this new year’s like any other, getting paralytic, having their stomachs pumped and falling asleep on the dusty streets of the nearest city, this may sound like a stupid idea, but for all the irresponsible Travis Pastrana fans, well, we have come to expect nothing less from the living legend. There is simply no doubt, that whether he makes it or not, this stunt will send Pastrana soaring to yet another jaw dropping level of athletic superstardom, even if he’s just credited for his sheer guts and daring craziness.
After all, he wouldn’t be the Travis we’ve all come to know and love if he wasn’t attempting something that could result in his death. Red Bull have compared him and his car to a golfer and his golf ball, have given the event the motto “not since the Jetson’s will a car fly so far” and I’m sure, as a fan myself, Pastrana will stand true to his legacy, we all know that whether he lands on the barge, or at the bottom of the Pacific, he’ll come out fighting with a smile on his face, a big thumbs up, and something even crazier and wilder for us to panic about next year.
December 31st 2009 Red Bull. New Years No Limits. Be there, or live forever knowing that you missed something un-missable.
