Whenever I’ve recommended minimal ambient artists Stars of the Lid to friends and relatives I’ve been met with odd reactions. ‘I felt like I was dying’ and ‘It’s like listening to a washing machine’ are two of the more derogatory descriptions my know-nothing contemporaries have seen fit to report back to me with. Honestly, Stars of the Lid are totally rad. It’s just all about spin. So, replace ‘boring’ with ‘soothing’ and ‘dull droning’ with ‘bleakly beautiful’ and you’re well on your way to a good night! Look, for heaven’s sake, it’s their first foray to the U.K in 6 years and they’re playing in a church. A church! Just come, OK?
